UFL Championship Prediction: A Fan's Perspective

Now that we are about to be through three weeks of the UFL season, it is time to look forward to June 16th, in Saint Louis where the top of the USFL will take on the class of the XFL for bragging rights in the first UFL Championship. In spring football especially, it is hard for analysts and fans to predict the season because there is so much turnover within each team, now that the feeling-out process has finished, I think I would like to take a crack at it.
I will give my scores and predictions for the playoffs and we can check back in June to see how I did. I have watched every game this season and feel confident I can get this. First, we start with the USFL Conference which features the Birmingham Stallions (3-0), the Michigan Panthers (2-1), the Memphis Showboats (1-2), and the Houston Roughnecks (0-3), the most impressive team in this league to this point has been Birmingham. With a good mix of run and pass, statistically having the best offense in the UFL, and a defense that ranks first in total defense.

This team is a no-brainer to advance to the USFL Championship and is the easier of my picks, the second team is where it gets murky. None of the other teams have stood out to me, but based on this past weekend I am going to have to go with the Michigan Panthers, they exploded for 34 points against the Houston Roughnecks and if they can keep their offense going, their defense will be able to back them up and lead them to the promised land.
In the USFL championship, the Stallions will take care of business 31-25. Stallions QB Adrian Martinez will make the difference with his legs and the Michigan Panthers offense will not be able to keep up and eventually dissipate towards the end of the game. The Panthers will come close and this matchup if the roster stays close to the same will be one we could get used to seeing for years to come. The Stallions will claim their third USFL title and be a tough test for the XFL Conference champ.

The XFL Conference will be hard to read down the stretch, every team in the conference has shown flashes but also at times, an inability to put a full game together. There's a logjam in first place as three teams (the D.C. Defenders, Saint Louis Battlehawks, and San Antonio Brahmas) share the lead with a 2-1 record. Bring up the rear is an Arlington Renegades club who, quite frankly, could have been 3-0 instead of 0-3, losing in crushing ways each week.

That being said I am going to go with my gut and I see that D.C. will scratch their way to the conference title game by winning a bunch of tight rope, down-to-the-wire games as that have not impressed me thus far, but have the most complete team in the XFL in my opinion. The second seed will be the host team Saint Louis Battlehawks as AJ McCarron and company have the most offensive upside in the whole UFL and I am waiting for them to get rolling. In a tight game that comes down to a final-minute drive the Battlehawks edge out the Defenders, 23-21 and The BattleDome gets ready to host the championship figuring it's home team.

Could you imagine the crowd at a UFL title game with Saint Louis in it? The BattleDome might sell out, which would be terrific for the league financially. After the first UFL season, the Stallions led by Skip Holtz, and the Battlehawks led by Anthony Becht will do battle for the UFL trophy and have a chance to make history. My head says that the Stallions will win because Coach Holtz has done a great job building the Stallions program to where they feel a lot more put together than other teams but my heart wants Saint Louis because Battlehawks fans are most loyal to their UFL franchise. I flipped a coin and the Battlehawks will win the first UFL championship game by a score of 27-23 in a game where the crowd noise shakes the stadium, the Kaw will officially become the Law, and AJ McCarron will be able to show his children what winning a championship is like. I have to agree with the Birmingham pick not positive about DC though.
